Square Circle Forum

My Nan taught me how to knit when I was a teenager. When she passed
away when I was 17 I stopped. Whilst pregnant with my second son I had
the most overwhelming urge to knit and started again.

When my first son was born as a way of saying thank you for his safe
arrival etc. I started child sponsorship with PLAN. My second son
arrived in February and I've been thinking about what I'd like to do.
Since he started me knitting again Knit a Square seems the ideal way to
say thank you for his safe arrival by giving something back to those
children in desperate need who have not been so fotunate in life.

My Nan also taught me the basics of crochet but I can't remember how to
do it so I'm going to teach myself via the internet and crochet some
squares for the children too.

I'm excited about this and can't wait to get started.

Hi Zoe

Welcome to KAS and the forum. Sometimes our main page is confusing - so as one of the mods, I am going to make a suggestion. Your blog posts is not getting noticed very much and the response is limited because it is hard to find.

That area on the main page looks like anyone can blog there - and they can - but generally we try to reseerve that area for Sandy so other blogs do not show up easily.

There are two things you can try. Click on the forum tab in the top menu bar. This brings up a list of categories in the forum. To the right of the category name is a number which shows the number of discussions in that category. Click on the category title and a screen comes up with a list of the discussions going on. You can start a new discussion by clicking "Add discussion" in the upper right corner and away you go. You could choose to open a discussion under either "Meeting you" or under "Members Personal blogs". Both of these wil act just like your very own blog and will be easily seen by all forum readers.

Each time you want to add to your blog, click on the "reply to this" right under the discussion intro. This will put your new comment at the end of the discussion and keep everything in chronological order. It is not necessary to open a new discussion every time you want to add something and it will keep all the responses in one place where they are easy for you to find.

You can move your current blog posts to the opening are of your discussion by copying and pasting the text.

We are so glad you have joined us and we want to hear what you have to say. Moving out of that main page blog area will let us find you so much more easily.

Again - welcome

What a beautiful thought! And when your children are older you can explain to them how their arrivals inspired you and thus inspired positive change in our world - all before they could walk! Perhaps they will learn to knit too?

I learned to crochet when I was 8 from my great-grandmother. When she moved (to Florida, of course) I stopped crocheting. Years later I suddenly had the urge to get back to it. I think I made 5 granny square blankets in preparation for one Christmas! I can't do anything beyond the granny square, unfortunately, but I did learn to knit 2 years ago with the Lucy Neatby DVDs.
