Yesterday I went to my local post office here in Florence, Italy to post 3 blankets, a cardigan, and 3 preemie hats. According to my scale at home, the package weighed a little less than 1kg, and therefore would cost me 8.70 euros to ship. When I got to the post office, however, the scale there said the package weighed slightly over 1kg, and therefore would cost me 16 euros to ship! The clerk was so kind, she handed me a scissors and some packing tape, and chatted with me while I opened the package, took the preemie hats out, and taped it securely closed again.
Phew!
With my work hours it's really hard for me to get to the post office, so I deeply appreciated the kindness of the clerk on a very very hot Saturday morning!
:-))))

Great you are so wonderful Mary. I'm glad that it's your scales and not the post office that's off. That would be very disappointing!

Oh Kalai, I think it's much more likely that the little plastic kitchen scale I use to weigh my packages is a bit off...
in any case, I have almost a kilo of items ready to send, so I will put the preemie hats from the previous package into this one, and hopefully send it off this Saturday!

Ahhh Mary that's nice. I think the post office should get their scales checked though???
