Hi Nancy.

Yes your squares will be much appreciated. Thank you. :))

I usually knit an inch and take a measurement, as I sometimes find the thickness of the yarn can vary from ball/skein to ball, even in the same ply and brand. Anything up to an half inch wider can still be easy to fit into a blanket......but even ones bigger than that will still be used....there is a very special lady in the team in South Africa who joins the 'odd sized' squares together to create  blankets....we just try to make it easier for the team, by sticking to a uniform-ish size for ease of sorting and sewing.

Thank you for joining us and wanting to help the children.  :))

Happy knitting!!

Hi Nancy.

A warm welcome to the Knit A Square forum.  :))

Knitting or crocheting an 8" square or two or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for the children. They love to receive their blankets, created from squares, which come from kindly, caring folk such as yourself, from over 60 countries all over our world.  PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone of all our blankets. These are single colour squares that are in garter stitch(knitting) or single crochet as they are very solid and provide a contrast to a picture/striped/patterned square or two that may be added to a blanket.By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page or our other square pattern discussion  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/member-s-patterns-squares you can also find lots of patterns provided by our fellow K-A-Sers. If you would kindly check out our wishlist, you can see what items we are currently focusing on.
