Greetings Evelyn from east of you in the bush of NW Ontario! Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African Aids orphans. Glad to have you with us. It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world.
The Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section) show the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Anyone Want to Chat Discussion section, which contains the Our Furry Companions and Yarnaholics threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic! Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa!
Hello Evelyn, welcome from a fellow Canadian. I'm in Sault Ste. Marie, just a "few" hours away :-) So glad you’ve joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.
If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you. The FAQ category should answer any general questions you may have. If not, please ask. http://forum.knit-a-square.com
Looking for patterns ? Check out the KASPattern Book filled with ideas for both the novice and experienced knitter or crocheter.
You might like to join the Monthly challenge. This is a fun way to try new ideas or patterns. Every month, a theme is chosen, and if you wish, you may create something new and different......it could be making a plain square using a new colour, a different stitch or trying a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting. An 8”/20cm square is the perfect size for experimenting.
This month’s challenge is Plain Jane Squares, Stash Busting and UFOs. Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children. Plain Janes are the backbone of KAS. Since it takes 35 squares to make one blanket, squares are needed all the time.
If you are like the rest of us you probably have a stash of yarn just waiting to be made into squares ! This is a great way to use up that yarn and keep the children warm. Once it is used, then we can buy more :-)
UFOs are ‘UnFinished Objects’. For example: vests or sweaters, tucked away in the closet needing to be sewn up or a trim added. We will be finishing these and adding photos to the discussion. So please have a look.
We would love to see photos of your work. Click on the photo option at the top of the page and follow the prompts.
