Heidi the founder of our group "Knitting for Africa" attended a meeting on Friday to further promote the work we are doing, and hopefully welcome more volunteers to our group.

Knitting for Africa will be attending an 'Open Day' in conjunction with 'Carers Resources' on Thursday 18th October 2012 at Gargrave Village Hall, North Yorkshire. So if you live local to Skipton we would love to see you there!

  • HERE IS THE REPORT THAT HEIDI SENT ME REGARDING THE OPEN DAY AND THE NEXT STEPS!

We are a group based in Skipton North Yorkshire.  Our aim is to promote Knitting in our local community while supporting and promoting the work done by KASCare.  The first thing we did was to create our own websiteWWW.KNITTINGFORAFRICA.CO.UK .

We attended an open day on the 18th October where we recruited new volunteer Knitters and also raised some much need funds to help cover the postage.

We have also started visiting Sheltered Housing Schemes in our local area to provide the opportunity for elderly people to support KASCare.  The first of our visits took place on the 24th October and was a Great Success.  The plan is to involve other members of the community by providing this visiting scheme.

As a group we are also hoping to start 'Knit and Natter' Groups in our local area where we will meet to socialize share ideas and tips and also provide the opportunity for non-knitters to learn to knit.

We have set a challenge of send out 200 squares by the end of the year which we are WELL on target to reach (We are hoping to beat it!).

If you would like to become involved visit our website or contact us on info@knittingforafrica.co.uk

  • Agree Linda, and, it will provide people who love to knit, but have no one to knit for an outlet for their skills!

    • Great set up you had there, Heidi.....very eye catching!!

    • What a lovely display Heidi !   Great way to spread the word :-)

  • Please don't forget to take your camera! Plus a report too!

    • No problem, unfortunately I won't be attending the Open Day myself, but I'm pretty sure Heidi will be taking lots of photo and will do a piece on how the day went. :-)

  • Wow Simon and Heidi....just took a look at your Knitting for Africa site......LOVE it!!!!

    • Thank you! It is still a work in progress but not bad as it has only been up and running a couple of weeks :-) and we are starting to get some members in the Knitting for Africa forum too.
