Squares are made and sent to KAS from all over the world. When they arrive, they must be sorted, packed into bundles of 35. Then they are given to the Gogo groups and KAS volunteers to be made into beautiful blankets. They are returned to the KAS workshop and finally travel in the KASmobile to be distributed to the children who need them.
This is why we are jingling our bells early in the year. We want our Christmas blankets to be ready in plenty of time for Christmas
Give free rein to your creative talents. You can make PJ’s, striped or appliqued squares.
Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer,
Make this Christmas the best yet for KAS’s 10th anniversary.
AND of course all toys are welcome to share the fun.
The PoM this month is the Alphabet crochet square.
Instructions and graphs can be found in the KAS pattern book.
Here is an "N" for NOEL to start you off.
YES! I can only echo Lesley's comment ... the perfect yarn for the month and that pattern shows it off perfectly!
Lovely square, Gloria, makes me wish I could still knit! I've been looking for a similar pattern in crochet but I don't think it translates well. I've found a scarf pattern crocheting short rows through the back loop only but it looks very time consuming.
Thank you, Marion. I thought I had seen a pattern like this in crochet, but I can't remember where, or if perhaps I'm imagining I did :(
Perhaps Sharon B. can help us. Do you know of any patterns for this type of work done in crochet, Sharon? If we could find one, can you imagine the beauty that Marion would create with it :))) xo
I would like to give it a go too, in crochet of course.
Well, dear ladies, Sharon B to the rescue :) She got busy this morning, but sent me this link:
Perhaps this is the one you already have, Marion. But don't give up hope - Sharon is sooooo good at finding things and she's not done looking yet :))
Thank you, Sharon B. This pattern looks great. Some of the colour combinations are so attractive.
Thank you Gloria and Sharon. This is the pattern I had found. I need to buy some variegated yarn in Christmas colours!
Don't give up just yet. As much as I like the Slip Slope Scarf pattern, using short rows in crochet by working into the back loop only on a slip stitch, I like the Field & Furrows knitted pattern even more (actually called Swingy Accessories). So I have attempted a combination of the two patterns. Success so far is only moderate, but I will share it with you soon. Meanwhile, I'll keep monitoring these pages to see what you clever people have come up with :).
What a lovely festive intro Valerie! Your beautiful red square starts the theme off really well........I look forward to the rest of thr month:))
A Circle of Friends Square. Seems particularly apt for the Forum.
Lovely bright square, and very aptly named as you say.
LOVE the name of your square, Patricia....and sooo true. :))
A very pretty square...LOVE red and white together...so bright and cheery. :))
