Square Circle Forum

Hi dear KasFolk, with much inspiration from Pam Antink, we have come up with a list of potential challenges for the year.

This is by no means definitive.  We want your input.  What will make you excited to knit, crochet and create this year?  January Jewels seems to have got us off to a flying start, so thank you everyone who took part in it.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Please help us grow and further our cause, warming, comforting and loving these small children whose little faces light up when they are given anything, let alone a hand made blanket, hat and toy, by taking part in the challenges.

First, by putting on your creative cap and coming up with ideas that will inspire all our members.  We have people all over the world, here in the forum, on Facebook, subscribers through knit-a-square, in churchs and schools stitching probably every minute of every day.  Now there's a thought!

Imagine if they were making a square inspired by your idea.

GO THE EXTRA DISTANCE
Knit and crochet a few more. Take part in the challenges, post photographs of your squares, comment on other's work.  Every stitch you make, every encouragement you give, every person you talk to about the children, is effectively making a difference in the life of a child, who has so little, least of all the love of their parents.

Here are the suggestions.  Pam's were country focused.  We have added a few more ideas and retained some old but loved ones.

Ronda says she loves color, loves plain janes, thinks the creative squares are just out of this world and are like the jewels in the crown, and that you are the cleverest people on the planet.

She also says that they work to make sure that each child gets one or two special squares in each blanket where possible.  So your wonderful acts of creativity really make a difference.
Really looking forward to your input!

Hi Guys

These all sound fantastic...am loving the global feel of it...i.e. incorporating as many countries and cultures as possible. Well done!

The only thing that I had thought of was...a Very Varigated month...where we knit what's in our stash that is varigated, but also hunt out new and different varigated yarns that we can post photos of when knitted up, to share with others from other countries. When going to another town or city or shopping area I haven't been to before or at least not for a while, I love to find new varigated yarn to knit with....It's always a surprise to see how the yarn knits up, how the pattern turns out etc. And I love seeing the different varigated yarns that others have turned into squares. Yes...you guessed it...I LOVE varigated yarn and its probably because I am a basic knitter and this is my way of creating something a little different from Plain Janes without having to do complicated patterns.  Thanks for asking for my input...look forward to seeing what everyone else has to say. xx

HI Bev, variegated yarn would be great for plain janes and could be chosen in keeping with the theme.  Great suggestion, thank you.

This is a really great list. How about something like a hot air balloon to fill up? or a basket ?  since we all have to ship to them from where ever.

It could be like the show " Around the world in 80 different ways" that was just on recently. Just a thought.

Well that has got my creative head spinning.  Love the around the word in 80 different ways.  Will have to think on that Regina, thank you for the idea.

I was thinking of making some hand puppets for the children.   What do you think?

Hi Maggie!

Puppets would be great! We have made some of those before, and there can never be enough!!!

Mary

I am glad you agree Mary.  I think something for the children to play with would cheer them up and take their mind of their troubles God love them.

Belinda Robinson just posted a photo of some teddies and puppets, hats and squares she made. I think these puppets are darling.  Kids love doing make believe! (you can adapt any teddy pattern just don't do the legs and continue the body til it's the right length)

Ready to go!

Ahh those are gorgeous.  The children respond in a quite heartaching way to having their own toy, most of them immediately wanting to strap them on their backs as they have seen mothers do.  Sadly maybe not their own.

I like the ideas :)

Please can you thank Ronda for her message of thanks.  I have sent several squares with jewels on them and it is encouraging to know that they have not gone astray.    A couple of pounds extra to brighten up the childrens lives is money well spent.

I have 25 jewel squares ready to send today.

God Bless the children and all of our kas community.xxx

Excellent Maggie.  Could you click on Forums, see the 2012 Tally up top in "Featured Discussions", and add your totals there?  Thanks so much.  I love the jeweled squares.  It was a perfect challenge for January when not much is happening after Christmas except realizing many of us are stuck in the middle of winter!  :P
