KAS at the Cafe..... literally!

Yesterday was a red letter day!

I found out a few days ago that our Heather Mensah (Last month's Square Heart awardee and prolific crocheter/knitter) from England, is visiting family in Canada.

Now Canada is a pretty big place, so what are the chances we would ever meet up??  As luck would have it, Heather was within 20 miles of where I live so we were able to get together for a visit.

We spent a really fun afternoon chatting, laughing and getting to know one another.  There were four of us in the group - Heather and I, my daughter Wendy, and Andrea Palmatier (who does such an amazing job on our blog) who lives nearby.

Heather is a real fireball - full of energy - and I feel like I have made a new friend.

As you can see in the photos, we "forced" Heather to try a Canadian dish for lunch. For those of you who don't know what this is, it is called Poutine - a French Canadian dish that consists of French Fries smothered in gravy and melted Mozarella cheese (heart attack in a bowl, but very yummy).

The afternoon went by too quickly, but Heather will be back in a couple of years, so we are looking forward to doing this again

Here we are - L to R - Heather, Andrea, Anne, Wendy

  • Such a special meeting - I know how thrilled I am to meet another KASer in the UK - but to meet up in Canada! How cool is that?  I still dream of a KAS convention and us all meeting one day - we would never stop talking for a week, ha,ha!

  • It's true, I don't go many places without my crochet! I'm so glad we had a chance to meet up. It's on my (bucket) list to travel the world and meet all of you wonderful KASers. :o)

    • Gee Andrea, all you had to do was fly another 1200 miles northwest and you could have met me, still in Ontario, LOL.  Canada is too big but I love it anyways!   DO let us know where you plan to visit next eh Andrea?  No doubt it won't be as fast as the KAS climbing to great heights challenge is zipping around the planet but it will still be fun to travel along with you!

  • WOW!  How special is this.  So nice to actually see all you beautiful ladies.  I can just imagine the excitement and happy chitter-chatter that was going on around that table ... such fun !!

Thank you so much for sharing these lovely pictures. xo

    • How lovely to be able to get together like this. Thank you for sharing it with us. :))

  • How wonderful that you could all get together!  I just love it!  I so wish I could meet some of my KAS family someday.  You never know!  You're all so special to me and I do feel as if I know some of you!

So glad you had the opportunity to meet and chat!

  • How special.....that is just wonderful & why not knit when out........I just love the fact you have met one another. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all somehow meet one day, like a conference sort of thing!!!!!!!
  • Awwww, what a lovely meeting!  I do think when we KASers can meet we tend to give each other a boost of enthusiasm and excitement.  It's wonderful that so many warm hearted loving ladies can get together like this or at craft fairs, charity auctions etc. and share a common bond, a love for the South African AIDS orphans and other very poor children.  I think seeing people knitting or crocheting disconnects people from the fast paced techno world for a moment and takes them back to a kinder gentler time and I think everyone loves to be reminded that these crafts are still going strong.  No wonder people nearby were smiling!  Thanks so much for the photos, what a beautiful chance to connect.

p.s.  Alright I'll admit it, sitting before me as I type this is the remains of my lunch, a NW Ontario Poutine....the Poutine on steroids as it were....oh you can still go to McDonalds or A&W and get a Poutine with gravy and cheese but I get mine from a little thriving First Nations' restaurant called KoKom's and their Poutine has home made gravy, cheddar cheese and BACON.    Mama mia....it's gorgeous but for sure don't have it too often.  I love their home made soups too, and their Bannock (a baked First Nations bread).  I won't say Indian because then people don't know who I'm talking about and I don't mean India.  :)

  • Thanks for sharing Anne and Heather !  Looks like a good time was had by all :-)

  • Anne, wasn't Heather supposed to sing for her lunch?  Just wonderful to see you all together!
