Ronda and Jostina, one of our "private" sewing ladies - a domestic worker in the suburb of Norwood, visited Alexandra on several occasions in 2016 and on this day we distributed at Mmakwenadi Day Care.

This crèche is run by Lena and Johanna, who look after approximately 80 children in quite a small space - so it was noisy, squashy and difficult to manage the distribution - and some of the children were a bit subdued which is always sad.

90 blankets had been loaded up and were taken there, but happily the extras were required at Tiny's crèche across the road so we took them there rather than drag them back to the office.

On this day we distributed quite a few of the Spoor & Fischer blankets, matching beanies and hand-warmer sets.  So beautifully made and special!

Before Easter 2009 Ruth Nkosi of Hotel Hope brought me to the very building when Emily was running it a crèche called "Immanuel" ... I need to search out the pics.   Apparently she has moved and opened a new crèche in Marlboro, a better area.

I remembered taking chocolate eggs there in 2009 so the children could celebrate Easter !

[I have split the photos for these two visits into two batches and will post the Tiny pics Christmas week. Pam]

  • Thanks for sharing Pam. I'm guessing too that they may be a little nervous around strangers. I'm sure they will enjoy their colourful warm gifts.

  • Those little faces say it all....  :((  Back to my needles .

  • Yes, the children don't look overly happy at this distribution....but perhaps they are just wary of 'strangers'.

I notice that some of the children are not wearing their hand warmers correctly, again. Hopefully the carers have time to show them after the distribution.
