  • That page seems to be blank now but I found the pics and shall put a few here so everyone can see them.  It might be hard to see but the top paws are cut from the bottom rib of the sock...below where the body and toes are cut out.  See it? You cut the head, body in 1 piece, then the front paws from the bit of rib below that, all 1 sock. teddy-bear-made-out-of-a-sock-10-pics_10.jpg

  • Hahaha, you and me both! Once I gave a party called Sex and the Single Sock, where everyone had to bring their single socks and see if they could find a match. Alas, even the black socks couldn't find maters: they were the wrong size or length or shade.

This bear is really clever, and I have enough socks with hopelessly large holes to make several. But I'm not too good with sewing. I made a sock doll that was so quick compared to knitting, I vowed to make another. The guy on the left (if I can upload the photo) is a sock doll.

    • Here's Annie's photo:  Sock dolls are a great idea !

      • I agree.  Sometimes I'll see such a cute kids socks, I can't wear them but I could make them into a doll!

    • Oh my goodness Annie I couldn't tell the doll on the left was a sock, he/she looks hand knitted.  The one on the right is cute too.  I like not having to knit or crochet the entire thing myself. I can take a break from knitting or crocheting, particularly if my shoulder is acting up (boo!) and whip up a few of these sock teddies and sock dolls without harming me and not taking much time either.  I think they're adorable and your idea for a party, Sex and the Single Sock...that's just downright funny!

Another thing with sock stuffies is they're fairly durable and I can save my knitting/crocheting for KAS squares etc. Some people work so fast they can do both and I applaud them for it, my hat is off, but me, I'm slower so I pick my battles, so to speak.  These are so cute!

Regarding the photos below...these could be turned inside out and easily sewn together with a sewing machine in minutes with just a tad of hand sewing at the "add the stuffing here" holes.  I would still not add the button nose but embroider one so a child doesn't suck on it and imbibe it or it falls off and they've got a noseless teddy! (same thing for the eyes, they can't just find buttons, they're way too poor over there)

  • funny-teddy-bear-made-from-socksI love photo how to's. :) Is this cute or what???? Thanks Maureen, for finding this...it's adorable and sock toys are so soft and cuddly and you can do a pocket pal bear, or a medium or large depending on what sock you use.  Sometimes a change is as good as a rest and making this little honey would be so much fun!

He'd also be very lightweight so wouldn't add much to postage costs plus could be easily scrunched into a parcel corner. (okay I'd embroider the nose rather than a button) I'm thinking one white sock could donate a LOT of teddy bear muzzles eh?

    • Yes, and most of the time I end up with only one sock out of every pair.  I would like to see a photo if you decide to make it.

      • Mmmm...I'd need a lock box to keep it safe from my dog who seems to think every stuffed toy in the house is for her!  This is something I might indeed have a go at, it's just so adorable.

Oh guess what?  That saying about "the dryer ate my socks" has some basis in fact.  Dryer repairmen when asked said they often find socks wound around the dryer drum mechanisms...ie. inside the dryer but not where they'll ever be found by us!  I knew it wasn't my imagination!!! I play a game on FaceBook about matching socks just to make me feel better, LOL. ;)
