My Mom checks out the "give-away" table at the Seniors' Centre. It usually has yarn someone doesn't want. For a small donation to the centre, she brings home the brightest colours she can find. A while ago she brought home 6 balls of purple mohair ! I haven't used it yet.
Hi Mary Anne, I'm so sorry for the delay in coming back to you. When I returned from holiday, work was waiting for me so I didn't respond straight away, then I managed to lose your message! This forum is getting so big (and all the more wonderful for that). We had a great time with our godsons. They always enter into the spirit of everything we do - they even enjoyed going around some beautiful gardens, not something you would expect of two 12 year old boys! As ever, the week went too quickly. I don't know if I said that this is the second year we have had a holiday with them in the same place. Around about day 2 of the holiday, one of them said "....when we come back next year......"!! I think they have it in mind that it's going to be an annual event. So pleased you enjoyed your grandkids. Not having had children, that's something I'm going to miss out on unfortunately but nieces, nephews and godchildren help.
Sandi Keeling said… Hi Mary Anne! So great to hear from you! This is such a warm and wonderful environment. I just love it. That is my daughter:-) She is 8 months old. I am so glad that you now have a granddaughter to crochet for! I am working on my hat knitting skills for my little girl but they end up way too big for her head! HaHa! I guess practice makes perfect. Hope to hear from you in the future!! Take care
Hi Mary Anne, I'm so pleased you liked the butterfly - it's really easy and great fun. Hope you have a wonderful time with the grandkids. We don't have children but we are very fortunate to be close to a couple of our godchildren - 12 year old twin boys. We're going away for a week on Easter Saturday with them and their mum, which we're really looking forward to. We did the same thing last year and had a hugely enjoyable week. Their father isn't particularly interested in his sons - his loss, our gain! Hope you're well. xx
Laurie Fortier said… Oh, my generous friend! I like the idea of backing them with flannel or polar fleece which would work for squares or tops. Zig zag or double stitching should help avoid fraying.
I forgot to ask. Did you make those adorable puppy dogs?

Laurie Fortier said… Oh, Mary Anne, you are amazing! I can't believe how much you have made! I love the flower squares and your cardigans! Where did you find those adorable buttons?
Thanks for adding me as a friend! I hadn't realized we had friends on the forum! :)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Mary Anne, I found the pattern for the crocheted butterfly: http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/adorn_butterfly_c01.htm although it seems to be on other sites as well. If this fails, just Google "Nellies crochet butterfly" and you'll get several hits. There's another free pattern for something very similar on Maggie Weldon's site : www.maggiescrochet.com/free-monarch-butterfly-fridgies-pattern-p-250.html Have fun. xx
LJ Roberts said… Hi Mary Anne - I haven't received your FB friend invite either. They're driving me crazy.
On the plastic sewing needles, what size do they need?

I forgot to say that the butterfly pattern is somewhere on the web. It's a great favourite of mine, really simple to crochet and very effective. I'll find the link for you - I think you'll like it.
The embellishments on the squares are actually crocheted. The patterns are all over the place but I do remember that the gecko is on the Lion Brand website, the bunny is I think on Maggie's crochet website (although I think I adapted it a bit), the others I think were mine but the ladybug is on the forum somewhere because someone asked me for it. It might be with the photo - which will be almost impossible to find! If I can still find it and you're interested, I'll post it here. Have a great day. xx
