Athele is on the road again with a loving distribution to the Pafuri region in northeastern South Africa.
She is graciously being sponsored by one of our groups in the UK.
All these entries come from her journaling on Facebook. We hope you enjoy her adventure in her little Blue Bird as much as we do.
This first entry is from June 30.
Spot Logan, my grandson, photobombing my attempts to capture the piles of over 50 blankets and beanies, plus over 100 fluffy toys I hope to hand it to impoverished children next weekend, in Bende-Mutale, Pafuri region in Venda. Estelle McLeod and her team and I have been furiously cobbling squares together for this trip, so we could take best advantage of the kindness of a couple of the Amazing supporters of Knit-A-Square SA who are sponsoring my fuel and toll costs to do this, when they heard about all the children running after me saying ‘What about me??!’ after my early May distribution. Can’t wait to give to them too!!! Bless all the loving hands and hearts that are going to make this possible. Special thanks to Estelle for Also edging countless blankets of mine and other ladies in her team who also don’t crochet.

Oh my goodness....... this last little one is holding one of the IKEA teddies I made scarves for and sent. Oh my goodness!! I hope that teddy brings a lot of comfort.
oh how wonderful to see one of your teddies in the wild!
Thank you for this insight of distributions ❤️
Athele has been clearing out some photos and here are even more from this incredible distribution from July.
ATHELÉ ‘S JULY TRIP TO PAFURI 2019.
This precious child was overwhelmed when Athelé presented her with this beautiful blanket, beanie and soft toy. The gorgeous squares were crotched by Trish Gribble from the United Kingdom and the blanket was sewn together by Rae Logie.

ATHELÉ’S JULY ADVENTURE TO PARUFI 2019.
This little chap racing off to compare blankets with his mates. I’m sure he has the biggest smile on his face.
The lion and there’s a rhino on his blanket were made by Julia Green from the United Kingdom and the gorgeous bright squares are from one of our local contributors. Rae Logie joined this one. The heart in the 1st chaps blanket was crocheted by Marion Davies from North Wales. As it’s one of Ath’s blankets I’m sure she can tell you more about it. The 2nd little guy has a blanket made from Fleur Downer’s fabulous car squares...another local contributor.
Gosh I found these recent pictures so emotive - I wept tears looking through them all more than once. A great big THANK YOU for making my day special!
I thought I was doing well, not a tear in sight (for a change) until I saw the pics and read of the stories of the young mum desperate for a blanket for her baby and then Languta receiving his special Superman blanket. You must be so thrilled and proud to see how much joy you have brought to him with your gorgeous centrepiece, beautifully coordinated with other matching squares, Amy. What a treasure for him.
Languta was the little chap that didn’t get a blanket last time Athelé was in Pafuri. She promised him that she would be back with a blanket for him. When I read her post I decided to use Amy Pettigrews Superman square to make him a blanket. Thanks to the “bush telegraph “ he heard that Ath was back and he walked a couple of kilometers in the dark to find her. I think the photos tell the rest of the story. He was absolutely delighted with his blanket and gave Ath and Mandy the biggest hugs. Thanks Ath, Mandy and Amy for making this guy so happy and warm tonight. You’ve also made my day!
