Moved from the old patterns section Comment by Julie Kempton on September 19, 2009 at 11:32pm Crochet Mitered Square: You can make this any size you want, just be sure to chain an even number so that your rows will always have an odd number of stitches. Chain 60. Row 1: SC in 2nd chain from hook and each chain across: (59 sc). Chain 1, turn. Row 2: 1 sc in each of next 28 sc; sc 3 together; sc in remaining 28 sc.(57 sc). Chain 1, turn. Row 3: 1 sc in each of next 27 sc; sc 3 tog; sc in remaining 27 sc. (55 sc). Chain 1, turn. Repeat pattern, decreasing the same way every row. Alternative way to do the decrease: Row 2: 1 sc in each of next 28 sc; skip next sc, sc in next sc, skip next sc; sc in remaining 28 sc.(57 sc). Chain 1, turn. Continue this way until you have just 3 stitches left, then sc3tog for the last row. NOTE: Depending on the height of your sc stitches, this may not come out exactly square if you decrease in every row. My stitches are a bit shorter than some other people make, so I found that my square tapered to more of a diamond toward the end. To fix this, I found that in the second half of the square I need to occasionally put in a row where I don’t do a decrease. It was kind of trial and error to get it right, I think I ended up doing that every 4th or 5th row until it looked right. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
