Hi everyone!

I'm so excited to start knitting my first square.This is such a great idea and I was really moved by it when i stumbled upon the site whilst searching for a community service that I could do. I'm only in high school but I plan to share KasCare with my school and try to get the student body to knit with me, then we'll be able to send a lot more squares than if it was just me knitting.

One question though...do we only knit squares? or can we send in soft toys and clothes too? if so, what are the best items to send through that can benefit the children getting them?

  • Hi Leia, lovely to have you on board.

    Squares are our most needed item but anything else that you want to send is fine too.

    Thanks for trying to get your school involved too. Keep us posted!

  • Leia,

         Welcome!  We also send "go-overs" and "slip-overs" and "cuddles" (baby sacks).  If you look up at the top and hover over "Patterns" you'll see a category for "Apparel".  Also, if you click on "Forum" and scroll down the last topic is "Patterns-GO OVER" and if you go to the next page there are more patterns too.  Oh and hats!  We also send hats!  They like the hats to be big enough to at least fit a 3-7 year old.  They also appreciate and use any small soft toys we send.  Here's a link for one of the last things I remember seeing from Rhonda (who organizes everything in South Africa):  http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/comments-from-ronda and http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/revised-wish-list-...

    Hope that helps!  Good for you for getting involved!  I wish I could have found something like this in high school;  I would have loved it =)!

    • Wow thank you so much!! It's great how there is such a range of items we can send :) The website is a bit tricky to know where everything is at first so thank you for filling me in! The patterns will be a great help and I'm really excited to make soft toys, because I still have mine from when i was younger so I know that the kids will really love to get them.

      Muchly appreciated :),

      • Leia, if you click on  KASblog at the top of the page and then on Knitalong, you will find the current

        baby cuddle sack (KASCuddle) pattern in a pdf. downloadable form.  There is an error in the pattern;

        Ronda is asking they be 28" in the body rather than 25" so the older babies will have more foot room,

        but all the other directions are correct.   The other KASCuddle patterns on the Forum are out of date and will

        eventually be taken down.

        • Leia it's good to have you with us. There's a huge variety in the patterns, something to suit all abilities and interests, so whatever their skills all your friends will find something they can contribute. Good luck!
