I have just sold the first pack of wool on Ebay to raise postage funds for KAS - and got £5.77 which is a great start.  for anyone not knowing the history of this and thinking I am mad selling wool when we are all knitting - i have been given loads of mohair which is not great for KAS purposes so am trying to Ebay it to cover some of my postage costs.
My ebay site is Knit-a -square-member.  Have posted some single balls but think these may not go so well but I am on a learning curve, never having sold on Ebay before.  Good fun and if I can raise a fair bit for postage I will be thrilled.

  • Great idea Pam!
  • I've been selling on e-bay too recently. I've got a huge bag of sock yarn left overs which I've been parcelling up and selling...Each 50g bag is going for about £2-3 which I'm happy with. I'm then using the money I make both for postage and buying bargains of 100% wool yarn.

My tip when selling is to sell in smallish quantities (2-3 balls), make sure you cover your postage costs and start at a very low bidding price - You tend to get more bids that way and it often adds up quite well.
    • Thanks a lot for that Cathy. You seem to be getting a very good price. I mostly go for the 99p auctions but have tried a couple of packs with a starting price of £5 - but that may not work. I was a bit worried that a pack of 10 balls of mohair worth about £40+ would go for just a few pounds. It will be very interesting to see what sells.
Sandy has asked Kalai to look into registering KAS as a charity on ebay - then we could nominate KAS and a percentage of listing fees would go straight to KAS increasing their benefit. it is certainly a good way of making some postage money. What is your Ebay "name"?
      • I enjoy checking out Ebay and I agree with you on Mohair. It's lovely stuff but slippery and wow it grows on you, literally lengthens, unless doubled up with a stabilizing yarn to make it behave better. I think it's fun to list what you're not using and then get postage money from it. It's very "ecologically minded" too I think, reuse, recycle and all that. I was given some expensive mohair years back and ended up selling it, I had no use for it at the time.
