In Memory of John

Hello all you wonderful people out there...it has been 3 months since I lost John and it has been a very difficult time.  But, I am starting to come good - as each week goes by, I get stronger and am now able to enjoy my beautiful memories without falling in a heap every 10 minutes!  Yes, I miss him terribly, but my family and friends (and Bella the dog) have all been there supporting me throughout - couldn't have made it without them. God Bless.

I am pleased to say that I finished the last of my 35 squares yesterday and have thoroughly enjoyed the 'therapy' that it provided me. They are bright and colourful and will look good when all sewed together (my first blanket). I know that whoever receives my blanket, will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed knitting it.  I send it with my love, and the a big hug.

I have now started to knit some beanie hats, and my next blanket - this is very "addictive".

John would be proud!

Best wishes to you all.

  • So pleased that knitting for KAS is a help to you Susan.  The knowledge that your blanket will warm a needy child will always bring you comfort and joy.  Of course John would be very proud of you and I'm pleased you hvae family, friends and Bella to help you through.

    • Good Morning Pam....your kind email is very much appreciated.  I am blessed in so many ways, that I am having to constantly remind myself of all the peoples in the world who are suffering so much more than I could ever imagine. Many thanks to you.

  • Susan, it is so great that you are finding solace through KAS, knowing that each square you make will help a child-what a lovely way to share your memories of John. I am a firm believer in the therapy of being creative to help us through difficult times and KAS is definitely one of the best ways to use that creativity. Well done for being so positive!

    • Hi Charis....thank you for your kind email.  My knitted squares have not really been what you call terribly "creative" but at least I put my sitting and waiting time to some good!  I know John is up there watching me, and cheering me on.  So, I will continue the "therapy" and start another.  All the best.

  • Much love to you Susan, we are so sorry for your loss. John would definitely be proud. I hope that each day gets a little easier x x x

    • Hi Kalai...thank you so much for your kind words.  Yes, the old saying "take each day as it comes, one step at a time" is very meaningful.  This week was better than last week, and next week will be better than this one.  It's hard to really appreciate just how much people's love, kind words and encouragement mean until you find yourself in this situation.  I have been comforted by this in the past few months.  God Bless you. xxx

  • Susan, thank you for letting us know how you are doing.  And congratulations on finishing 35 squares !  This blanket will be a tribute to John's memory.

    • Hi Linda.....I remember with fondness, the hours I spent knitting my squares while John slept quietly in the chair next to me (effects of the chemo).  He would sit there watching me with a smile on his face, then nodd off - I would still be there knitting away when he woke up, several hours later!  Had it not been for John's illness, I wouldn't have searched for this site, and wouldn't have taken up knitting (again).  So, it is certainly a tribute to him.

  • Dear Susan,

I am so sorry for your loss, and at the same time happy to know that you find "therapy" in making squares for KAS.

    All the best!

    Mary

    • Thank you Mary - I appreciate you taking the time to send your very kind email. Susan
