NEWS FROM THE BARN

 We recently had some packages arrive with declared values greater than $1 on them.  The Post Office in South Africa places a duty on these packages at face value.  Ronda and the volunteers have to return these packages to the senders as KAS cannot afford to pay these large fees.  Please be very careful when filling out custom forms.

While KAS is having distributions every week, we are going to spread out the distribution photos throughout the year so that we can continue to be inspired every month.  Thank you for your understanding.

Susanne Leverton, from Australia, has shared the most amazing pattern with us called the Clever Hat, and it has been a huge hit.  Here it is: Clever Hat - PDF (printer friendly)

CELESTIAL SENSATIONS ABOUND THIS MONTH

BLANKET ROOM

Our beloved Bev Jefferies has supplied the forum with hundreds of blanket pictures this month, all taken by Ronda and the volunteers in the KAS Barn.  We are truly spoiled by their efforts in showing us the completed blankets sewn in South Africa and those sent by contributors.

SORTED IN SOUTH AFRICA

It has been very busy in the KAS Barn this past month.  There have been birthday celebrations and engagement announcements.  The volunteers have sorted through the 7000+ squares from the St. Stithians donation.  Blankets and squares have been arriving and blanket packs and blanket distributions have been prepared to go to the gogos groups and children.

Check out all the action by clicking here.

SQUARE LIST

THE AUGUST SQUARES LIST IS AVAILABLE.

Because of the heavy workload for the small KAS Team, hats, hand-warmers and toys will not be recorded anymore, but please keep sending them because they are desperately needed. In the 2019 Squares List the names of the senders, number of parcels and number of squares will be recorded. Please fill in the Packing Slip completely.

Please note that the office is inundated with packages and items on a weekly basis. The volunteers do their best, but it's impossible for them to list every single item that is sent. All efforts are made to list every parcel received. We thank you for your understanding.

The focus for 2019 and for some time to come will stay as is:

Squares for blankets, hats, hand-warmers and cuddly soft toys.

MONTHLY TOTALS:

                                                                             .

In August we received 167 parcels containing 14.960 squares, equal to 427 blankets.

Many other items were received, such as hats, hand-warmers, go-overs, cuddly toys and other goodies.

~~~~A HEARTFELT THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS~~~~
FREE STATE SATELLITE START UP
As reported last month, KAS is branching out with some Satellite locations to provide even more blankets to children in need.  One weekend in September Mabel traveled the 300+ kilometers, to Free State, to show teachers how to sew together squares.  Please visit this discussion.
WARM FUZZY FEELING
Check out Leanne's blog for the sights and sounds of the KAS Barn.  It is almost as good as being there in South Africa.
MONTHLY THEMES 2020
Neons, Stripes and Single Colors are just a few of the suggestions for our monthly themes for the year 2020.  Then we have the Olympics, Use Your Stash and Music for another idea or two.
We would love to have your input into making 2020 a fun year of themes that celebrate the child in all of us, but more importantly, celebrate the children in South Africa.
FINANCES
Here is the KAS Shop report for August.
