I was asked for a pattern for my ladybug whimsy so here goes. It's a little different from the original but I hope you like it.
Ladybug Applique
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
Materials:
Small amounts of red and black double knitting (light, #3) yarn. Small amount of 4ply (fine, #2) black yarn for spots.
3 mm crochet hook
2.5 mm. crochet hook for spots
Using DK (#3) yarn makes the body of the ladybug approx. 2.25 inches in diameter
Body
Using red yarn make 3 ch.
1st round Skip 2 ch. (counts as 1 sc) and work 7 sc into next ch.
2nd round 2 sc into top of ch. then 2 sc into each of next 7 sc. 16 sc
3rd round (2 sc into next sc, 1 sc into next sc) 8 times. 24 sc
4th round (2 sc into next sc, 1 sc into each of next 2 sc) 8 times 32 sc
5th round (2 sc into next sc, 1 sc into each of next 3 sc) 8 times 40 sc.

Using black yarn and counting from one side of the head, skip 1 sc on last round of body and join yarn to next sc. 5 ch., turn. Skip first ch., 1 sl st into each of the next 4 ch. Sl st into next sc on body and fasten off.
Spots (make 6 dotted randomly around the body surface)
Using fine black yarn and smaller hook, join yarn to surface of body by working around the post of a suitable sc. 1 ch., working in a square make 3 sc around the posts of adjacent sc of the body. Sl st to first ch and fasten off.
Optional: Back stitch a line in black yarn thru' the middle of the body.
