Hi there -

My name is Nancy.

I have been crocheting since I was about 6 years old, when my grandmother taughter me how to do more than just chain.  I have been an avid crocheter ever since.  My husband and I have 2 awesome girls who were born in China and who we adopted when each of them were 1 year old.  During the wait for our first daugther I taught myself to knit.  Now that life is a little more calm (meaning no more diapers or bottles or potty training, or shoe tying) I have picked up my knitting needles once again.  When we moved into our house 6 years ago, my husband informed me that I was not allowed to buy anymore yarn until I had used up my massive stash.  I would have loved to knit for the kiddos in China, but those doors just never opened for me.  I went on to look at other places where kids were in need, but they all wanted the yarn to be wool and would not accept any acrylics.  Yesterday I was trying to find a pattern and typed in something to do with knitted squares and KAS popped it.  It had to be a God thing.  It is exactly the organization that I have been looking for.  I have already gotten 1/2 a square knitted and am thrilled that a child is going to be snuggling under it one day.

  • Thank you so much for the warm welcome, ladies!

I have already gotten 2 squares done.  My youngest, 7 year old, has decided that she wants to help, too, so she is learning how to loom knit hats.  She is almost done with 1 infant/newborn sized hat.   In my excitement I have been talking this program up at church and already one woman has started to knit some squares and she is going to get some of her neighborhood kids involved as well.  I also think that I am goign to get some more/make some frames so that my girls and our neighbor kids can make some squares this summer.

The beauty of this is that none of the requested items are overwhelmingly large!

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

  • Hi Nancy, Welcome to KAS. Be sure to join the US group. I am from NW. Ohio. One of our two girls is adopted. What a wonderful feeling when you get them after a long wait. This is a good group.  Feel free to ask questions as no one minds and all are helpful.
  • good to have you, Nancy. As rachel says, this is a good group.  If you have any queries, just ask. There are NO stupid questions, just a person making sure they have correct info'. Remember to post photos

  • Welcome, Nancy!  This is a great place to be =)!  Knit A Square gives us a way to really make a difference, and it's even a difference we can see!  If you check the past issues of the ezine (http://www.knit-a-square.com/knittingforcharity-ezine.html) there are all sorts of pictures of the children with the various items we send.  It is really motivating!  Welcome aboard =)!
