I have moved house and had the holiday and a lovely Christmas. I have missed the Forum but soooo much has been happening - just on the KAS front let alone with the house etc. Here is a summary -
Moved house and lost internet access for 2 months - agony!
* - One lady tracked me down to new house - she had heard about me collecting knitting for KAS - told her craft group of 26 ladies - and arrived on my doorstep with a wonderful box of vests, hats and squares
* - I had a coffee morning to show friends the new house - some turned up with hats and squares
* - another craft group had a Christmas fair stall and donated to me the Izzy dolls that were left over
* - knitting group members and drama group friends have started knitting squares and some have given me donations for postage
* - helped with Operation Christmas Child (shoebox scheme) and met 3 new ladies who want to knit squares and gave me donations for postage
* - the Chair of Governors at the school where I work runs a wholesale wool business - yes, exciting!! She is donating to me bags of wool where the courier has burst the paper band around one ball so the batch cannot go to a wool shop!
* - the same lady has also offered her courier service to me and provided me with mailing bags! So far I have sent just teddies in the UK but she is checking out costs to SA and hopefully it will be cheaper
* - one Christmas present was a knitting board/loom! I have never seen one before but it is great. A friend bought it as she knew I was having elbow trouble. It is quicker than 2 needle knitting and produces thick double sided knitting - lovely and cosy!
* - elbow trouble has cleared up as I have not done much knitting for 2 months with the move and everything
* - previous owners left us a huge oak chest in the house - which is now the storage place for - guess what, yep, teddies and squares and wool and vests and Izzy dolls and .......
As soon as the New Year starts I shall get organised and get it all posted. I see you have enough small vests so will try to get them all on other things but mostly just encourage squares and more squares.
So as you see you have not been forgotten although I have not been on the forum.
So Happy New Year to KAS and to you all. One resolution is to try not to spend tooo much time on here as the hours disappear but it has been great to catch up and I see so much has been happening.
Pics attached of just some of the knitting that has been given to me since November

Months since I have called in here - but wanted to share this somewhere and this seemed like a good place. I think the following article is brilliant - and we could add "learn to knit" to the list. I am not knocking young people per se - all the youngsters I know are terrific - but this message could be given to a lot of youngsters -
On a new topic - have just had 2 days in London seeing Warhorse, the Cutty Sark and much else - fantastic. A highlight was a river taxi on the Thames at night with London all lit up - just wonderful! We sailed under Tower Bridge and the paralypic logos was hanging there. Also went to the Maritime Museum which is also the site of the equestrian events - checked over by great young soldiers and such fun to see the stadium up and the volunteers everywhere being so friendly. There was a real buzz and the Londoners we spoke to were loving it all. Despite the nay-sayers I think it has been great for London and GB.
Have been out tonight rehearsing Calendar Girls - what a hoot! I am the one hidden by knitting (of course!) so I feel very comfortable with it - feels just like being at home on the settee - well, almost!
Pam I am sure you will look beautiful and you at least might be warm with some knitting hiding yourself ! We must have a pic of course. You might make it to the KAS calender lol.

Well we are doing a real calendar to raise some more funds so will post a pic. Undress rehearsals start in another fortnight. I am practising making buns that are big enough for the props! :-)
We are a little taken aback by everyone's enthusiasm to come and see the play - and us! The whole point is that there will be nothing untoward on show but the novelty of it all is going to pack them in. If the photo is good I will make it my KAS featured pic, ha, ha.
After reading about other people's UFOs (UnFinished Objects) this week I was in the mood to do something about the bagful I had here. I had been given 2 Cuddles with gathered bottoms so unpicked those and gave them a straight finish to make room for little legs and sewed in lots of ends on donated squares and butterflied lots of loose ends and sewed up and stuffed a half finished teddy. Felt much better to see them all in the "to send" box instead of the "to do"box. Have found several other toys that I started and never finished so they are next on the list when I am in the mood. The little teddy is terrific but I don't know where I got the pattern from. It is quite unusual in that it is knitted in one piece except for the arms but you fold the body in half and seam down the back, then fold over the head piece and sew across the other way. Sounds odd but if anyone recognises this description and has seen the pattern I would be most grateful as it is fun to knit.

All I can say is 'you are a saint', Pam. I just wouldn't have the patience to finish off or correct other people's projects/squares.

Everyone remembers that line - Helen Mirren was such a revelation in the role!
