A pattern for short row beanies can be found here. These are very quick to make and very easy, never having more than 38 stitches on the needle at any time and no increasing/decreasing. I made mine with thicker yarn than the pattern specified with the result that I only needed to make four of the five wedges but they're good to experiment with. (The pattern says that there is no need to wrap the rows - a technique for avoiding holes - and this is so but if you would rather wrap the rows there are good tutorials on youtube to show how.
