Have just discovered this event on Facebook and was wondering if any of our wonderful knitters and crocheters in Scotland could attend and hand out leaflets about Knit-a-Square?   [I have some flyers if anyone needs some.]

Angus knitters are being encouraged to get involved in a world record attempt for the largest simultaneous knitting event.

The Big Knit 2013 will take place at Dundee United’s ground at Tannadice Park on Sunday, September 8, between 2 and 4 p.m.

The aim is to beat the existing record for simultaneous knitting held by the English Women’s Institute.

A spokesperson for Big Knit 2013 said: “The Guinness Book of Records confirmed a few days ago that our bid is now official. The idea is that knitters of all abilities and ages turn up with knitting needles and yarn, and knit sections which can be sewn together to make blankets for the homeless.

“The quality of the knitting is not being judged, so we don’t want people feeling they cannot come if they feel their knitting is not good enough.

“The interest has been phenomenal and if everyone who says they are interested attends, then the record will be broken, but they must turn up on the day!"
