Hi Deborah, I commented under Karen's photo but just in case you miss it, I wrote:
Deborah, please post your photos ! We'd love to see what you have made this month. The themes are just for fun. We aren't expected to follow the theme but instead follow what our heart wants us to make for the children.
I will indeed enjoy small pleasures Deborah...from my cats who take more of an active interest in my knitting than I'd like, haha, to making dolls and squares and hats. The smaller pleasures really do make my day. Speaking of which, I love your puppet/doll face avatar. Is he one of yours?
Greetings from the middle of Canada just above MN, Deborah! Welcome to Knit A Square, a charity providing blankets, hand warmers, soft toys and hats to orphans and AIDS victim children throughout South Africa. We are very glad to have you with us. I am in the middle of Canada and we have the option of sea mail to post. J It takes 6 weeks or so but gets there just the same. Check out our Groups area (see top of page, far right) to find groups formed in your countries. You can join as few or many as you wish and there are many good tips for posting to be found there, as well as fun get togethers and knitting afternoons and other tidbits shared. The photos section contains a small sampling of contributors’ items; the Discussions section is large but check out the reports from South Africa and drop into Café KAS for a giggle if you want one. Again, welcome! Ask questions freely and have fun sending your love and warmth to the children! (check out the monthly challenges for interesting ideas of what to knit or crochet or loom knit)
A warm welcome to Knit A Square from over here in Western Australia. :))
Knitting or crocheting an 8" square or two or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for a vulnerable child in South Africa. The children love to receive their blankets, created from squares, which come from kindly, caring folk such as yourself, from over 60 countries all over our world. You are encouraged to knit/crochet in any stitch you prefer, but we do ask that they not be too 'lacy' as warmth is our highest priority. PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone to all our blankets. These are single colour squares that are in garter stitch(knitting) or single crochet as they are very solid and provide a contrast to a picture/striped/patterned square or two that may be added to a blanket.By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page you can also find lots of patterns provided by our fellow KASers. If you would kindly check out our wishlist for 2016, you can see what items we are currently focusing on.
Clicking on the 'Helpful Hints' tab at the top of the page, will possibly answer many initial questions you may have . Any other questions...please ask...we love to help. :))
Here is a link to postage information, including our packing slip that we attach INSIDE our parcel to assist in the unpacking/recording process at Knit-A-Square in S. Africa.
If you'd like to see what other KASers have been making please click on the photo tab at the top of the page....and feel free to add photos of your own work...we would love to see them. Just click on 'add photos' and follow the prompts.
If you want to see the most active discussions at present, you may like to click on the 'main page' tab and they are listed in the centre of that page...just pick one and click on it. It is a large website, but with so much fun and info.
Each month we have a fun theme to inspire and motivate us. If you would like to see this month's theme, please click on this link:
