Kiran, moving houses always has a deep impact on private life. I hope you have settled down and feel "at home" in the new house. I was not much at the forum either, just too busy. But Winter is coming here so there is more time to spend at home and crochet or knit for the children. I finished a blanket in June and I didn't have the time to make a photo but will hopefully have an opportunity to do that before Christmas :) xo
Hi Kiran, so good to "see" you back on the forum! This is what I wrote about all compliments I received on the blankets stich squares:
"Dear friends, thank you so much for your encouraging and sweet compliments! This stitch (pattern) is so easy to do, once you've made the first row (which IS the patten) it is very easy going and most of all it gives a good (compact) structure for a blanket. Snuggly and warm. Kiran, I am looking forward to your first square in blanket stitch! Enjoy! xo "
Please check out the latest photos in the 'Sorted in South Africa 2015' discussion. I am sure that it is your green, red and off-white blanket squares that are pictured there. :))
Welcome to Knit A Square from the middle of Canada above MN! Sorry I’m late with this, my health’s not been brilliant lately. Am I ever brilliant? Ahem, I’m here and sincere now. Greetings! Please feel free to visit Discussions or join Groups to talk about things or go to Photos to see what some members are up to. These are in a line on top of the page, just click on them. As for the photos, talk about yarn artistry! Try not to be intimidated, I’m a plain square person myself but it’s lovely to view the more artsy squares. KAS is a very positive group and all these squares and sweaters and hats etc. go to help the poorest of the poor, the South African AIDS/HIV orphans who are parent-less and being cared for by many good and kind folk in often desperate surroundings. Our crocheted, knitted and sewn items can help give a child hope for the future because they are not forgotten, plus warmth and a smile and often a toy to cuddle. Glad you’re with us!
Hi Kiran, it is wonderful to have a use for our knitting/crocheting skills. Like you, I enjoy making squares all the time especially when I have to wait. Yesterday I was at the dentist and the receptionist asked what I was making. I, of course, showed her photos of the children in their blankets and explained about KAS. I think she may make some squares !
Hello Kiran, so glad you have joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.
Looking for patterns? Check the KAS Pattern Book [see menu bar above] for garments and squares for the children. We are focusing on children aged 3-9 years old. This age group is in need of warm garments and blankets.
Please visit “Helpful Hints” [see menu bar above] for helpful information:
- Questions you may have (FAQs),
- How to navigate the forum,
- Postage information and
- Learn when your squares arrived in South Africa!
We have a ‘Drive to Fill Ronda’s KASvan’ with squares and would appreciate if you would add to this challenge. We have filled the KASvan already and are trying to fill it again.
If you are interested in joining any of our challenges, please note: Your parcel does not need to arrive in South Africa before the end of the month. Those of us who use sea-mail find parcels take between 6-10 weeks to arrive. Whenever your parcel arrives, it will be appreciated and you are keeping children warm.
Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children. Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS. Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people around the world, squares are needed all the time.
We would love to see photos of your work. Click on the photo option in the tabs above and follow the prompts.
