Hi Wendy, it's not a UK forum just a UK group so that you can chat with people who are closer to you. You don't have to join it's just another way of getting to know people on the forum.
It's very lovely to have you, great community we have here!
Hi Wendy, yes the squares should be about 8 inches. This way they are all about the same size so that the women can easily join anyones squares together. I guess it is easier doing it my way cause you just need to crochet anouther ring round it until you get to the right size. Have a wee play and see how many stitches and rows works for you. Slightly off size wont be a huge problem. The squares are very satisfying as you can finish one quite quickly. I have another bundle on the go just now.

Hello Wendy, welcome and yes any yarn can be used, as long as it is warm and cosy. If it is pure wool we try to keep that aside for children we may expect to be exposed to naked flame, although it is not always possible to know. Look ofrward ot having you here in the forum, Sandy
Hi Wendy, welcome to our warm KAS community. We hope you will enjoy the forum and your region's group. You should join the UK Group!
There are lots of great discussions going on in the forum, including the monthly challenges.
We are still continuing our July Challenge - keep a newborn warm, making blankets for abandoned babies, and there were some great results for the August in Africa challenge - you can see photographs under the photos menu. (Details of both challenges in the main forum). We're also in the middle of our September challenge which is also under "challenges" in the forum.

Hi Wendy, I love all of your hats, blankets and jackets! They are gorgeous! I am from the USA. I just saw a post under one of your pictures about your son. I am so glad that both of you are doing good. My middle son, he's 8, just had his 3rd open heart surgery on 9-3-09. So, I know what it is like to go through something like that with your children. Take care...Sharman
Hi Wendy,
This is from the posting information page on the main web site :
Wool and acrylic
The majority of items knitted are acrylic yarns. So please only separate and mark those squares that are wool or high wool blends if sending together, so that we can isolate them to use for children who may be exposed to naked flame, where this is possible.
Alot of us are not sure the content either. I mark mine wool if I am sure
of the yarn.
hope that helps

Hi Wendy,
Saw you on the chat asking about the tails.
They have requested that we DO NOT leave a tail on the squares instead just enclose the extra yarn in with your square. I am in the USA so not sure my metre measurements are correct But I send a little less then a metre per square.(36 in) And we also mark whether the squares are acrylic or wool or blend : ) Hope this helps.
