Happy to see the squares arrived

Hi there

 

My name is Lely and I'm a MD practicing in Nova Scotia, Canada. I can only knit so much on my "free time" therefore I was so happy to see that my squares had arrived ( I had mailed them many months ago). And even more so, to see that they were inspiring to some of you. I hope they bring warmth and joy to the kids that will receive them. Makes me want to knit much more... Hope you all keep up with this amazing work ;)

    Lely these are beautiful. Sandy has spoken of the need to have squares like this, one per blanket, to make the blankets special for the kids. I am going to sew some embroidered patches onto squares and some people include fun fur and other wools or knit or crochet pictures into them. Any and all fancy squares are much appreciated and I love that these are simple squares underneath so they really show off the felted appliques. Well done indeed! These are treasures. :)

    Hi there

    Thanks for all the nice words you all had about the squares. They were made with felt appliques ( I bought second hand woolen blankets (in too poor of a condition to be used as blankets), felt them and then cut the motifs out). The motifs are then hand sewn to the squares with matching or contrasting coloured embroidery threads. The patterns come from children's colouring books or very simple drawings/images on the net. I'll keep them coming ;)

    Lely, your squares are wonderful! It's so great that you've gone that extra mile with sewing. The children are going to love the "tactileness" of them. :o)

    You may not have much free time but you have certainly put it to good use. these squares are beautiful.

    I was so hoping we would find out who made these. They are just stunning. Are the decorations made with felt? I have been considering applque as I really enjoy it in quilting.

    Oh my word! your squares are fabulous - I just love that whale with the smily face. I hope you find the time to relax and produce more of these. Thank goodness you know that your hard work arrived at the 'other end'.
