Hello from another prairie person!

Hi, everyone, looking forward to being in your community of knitters and crocheters.  I think like many of you I have waaaay too much yarn staring at me, so I'm hoping to make a dent in the stash.  Also like many of you, I think, I'm a cat lady, with two of my own who supervise the household activities!  They will be hovering nearby when I am working on my offerings for the South African children, and I'll include their love along with mine.  I will be closely watching all your posts for advice and inspiration!

  • Welcome Evelyn! Yarn, cats and love of children...you are definitely in the right place! Looking forward to chatting with you!

    • Hi, Laurie, nice to hear from you.

I've just finished one of the little vest sweaters, Grace's pattern, have to sew it up yet, but I think it turned out pretty well.

Now I should make some squares.

Hope you had a good Christmas down under, and you can bet it was a lot warmer there

than it was here!  I think it was on Christmas morning that we had a windchill of minus 42.  They say it was the coldest Christmas we've had in 16 years!  I've been hibernating and knitting!!

It's bedtime on this side of the world, so that's where I'm heading.  Have a good day over there!!

  • Hi Evelyn...and welcome from sunny Western Australia.

So glad you have joined us. Stashbusting is an art I am yet to achieve....just went and bought 2.4 kgs of yarn in the last two days while doing Christmas shopping. Being summer over here, there are yarn bargains to be had...lol.

I see you are from Canada. Just had an email from my sister in Canada with a photo of her first grandchild (14 months old) in her first snowsuit in the snow. A little hard to imagine right now as we are expecting around 39 degrees celcius tomorrow  (Christmas Day) over here.

Merry Christmas to you,,,,and please do post some pics when you have made some items...only if you wish to of course.  :))

    • Hi, Bev--so nice of you to write.

I hear you about the yarn buying....I guess there could be worse addictions, but this yarn stashing takes up a lot of room, doesn't it!!

Wow, you're going to be 39 degrees on Christmas Day!!  My daughter and husband lived in N.Z. for 10 years (moved back to Canada 3 years ago) and I kind of got used to their having summer at Xmas time, and I think her friend in Wellington said it's going to be 26 degrees tomorrow.  My last visit I was able to go at the end of Feb. so finally got a taste of the warm weather down under!! Before that I was able to travel only in our summertime.

Merry Christmas and all the best in 2013.  I'll see how I go with the projects and if I have good luck, I'll post some pics!!

Happy knitting/crocheting in Western Australia, and try to keep cool!!!

       Evelyn

  • Evelyn, be warned....KAS can be very addictive !   I too have 2 cats who love to help and give final 'approve' of the items I make.

If you have any questions, please ask.  We are a very friendly, helpful group.

    Linda

    • Kindred spirits, as Anne of Green Gables would say!  So glad to have found you.

Yes, thanks, I will certainly ask any questions that will probably come up!  I can imagine I will be as addicted as everyone else!

      Evelyn

  • Welcome Evelyn it is lovely that you joined us to make a difference in the children's lives.Happy stashbusting ! But beware the stash has a tendency to grow as fast as it diminishes for many of us !

    • Thanks for the welcoming message, Sue!  Yes, I know what you mean about the stash...maybe I shouldn't be on the mailing list for all those yarn companies....
