Hello everyone!,

I am so thrilled to have found KAS , and to join the ranks of so many other volunteers who devote their time to knitting and crocheting for such a wonderful cause.  At first I wasn't sure if I would even remember how to knit as it has been a very long time since I even had a pair of needles in my hand, but I guess it is like riding a bicycle, you never forget.  Thank goodness!

My mom taught me how to both knit and crochet when I was a little girl, and although I enjoyed it then, I sort of gave up on it for awhile.  I did return to knitting when I was pregnant, and made a blanket for my baby, and then it fell by the wayside once again.  So when I found KAS I really wanted to give it a try and went out and purchased a couple of balls of wool and some needles.  I started knitting that same night and haven't stopped since, I love it so much.  To know what these little squares are for, and who they are for, makes me love it even more, and makes me feel that I am at least doing some little thing to help out where it is truly needed.

I am excited to report that I have just finished square number 10, and have cast on the stitches for number 11!  Hopefully I will complete several more and then get them packaged for their long journey to Africa.  I have already had one young lady ask me about KAS and I know she was planning on joining the group, and start knitting some squares, and I put a little note on my FB page explaining what I was doing and a link to your site, so maybe I can recruit some more volunteers for this fabulous cause.

That is all for now, I have to get back to square 11!

Take care everyone, and keep on knitting/crocheting!

Wendy

  • Hi Wendy,

I just joined too. I knit a little and crochet a lot! Knowing where the squares are going really inspires me too. I just finished my 10th square and might try to make a sweater now:) Happy Knitting! Mia in Indiana

  • Hi Wendy and welcome from sunny Western Australia. So glad to have you join us.

As Debbie has already said...the enthusiasm for this worthy cause is contagious, and it sounds like you have well and truly caught the 'bug'. So love your enthusiasm, and would love to see a pic of your squares before you send them....if possible.

I have knitted two squares today ( day off work) and feel soooo happy. Sure gives me a 'buzz'.

    Happy knitting!

    Bev.

  • Welcome, Wendy, from a fellow Ontarian! It's amazing how children spur on the need to knit or crochet and what a good cause you've chosen. To be honest, I still haven't made anything for my own two boys!

Post some photos when you get a chance so we can admire your work.

  • Welcome to you, Wendy! So happy you found us. I feel the same way...putting love and hope into each stitch of each square and hat I make. Good news that you are already recruiting others, too! I put a basket with yarn and needles and fliers and rulers in my chiropractor's office and I've been so happy to say that many people sit and knit while they wait for a visit with Dr. Krimmel and some have even taken the idea home with them and are contributing on their own. The enthusiasm for this wonderful cause is contagious!
