I have only just seen your comment of 10 April - I think I must have missed it by not looking at 'my page' more often although I look at the main page and the latest news. Anyway, renewed thanks - are you still planning to send out more items in September.
Hope all goes well with you.
AH, I love the picture I have in my mind, thinking of all the little toys drying on your clothesline! I imagine your clothesline was never so colorful or cheerful. Isn't it amazing the fun things that happen when we're working on KAS projects!
(Yes, even I occasionally sneak a tiny bit of pink into a square, but it is only a small bit. Right now I don't have any pink yarn at all in my entire stash! Don't tell the others who have so often said that pink is their favorite color.)
I am trying to make an alphabet blanket for this month, with crochet letters on background squares, some with little appliques on them, so I better get back to my work and let you get on with yours. I'll be looking forward to seeing the darling toys.
Oh, that is brilliant, Ute! Yes, you are looking at some detailed work to get them ready for shipping, but we know how excited the children get when they see the toys. I remember Ronda's report saying there were "squeals of delight" when the toy box was opened, so already I can almost hear squeals and giggles and laughter when your little renewed beanies reach their hands! I wish I could be there to help you with them, but I send my best thoughts to cheer you along as you do the work. Warm hugs. Sharon
Ute, I guess I really do have giraffe legs, because I buy slacks or jeans with 33 or 34" inseam, especially if the shoes that will be worn with them have any heel at all! Makes for limited options in clothing. I used to sew most of my own slacks, but now would rather make squares and toys for KAS!
Keep up your great work .. and it is OK to use pink, occasionally.... LOL!
Oh, how your comment made me chuckle! I have what I call "giraffe legs" so everything I wear is dictated by what pants I can find that are long enough -- usually black or navy blue, occasionally tan. And the tops are mostly the same -- black, blue, mixtures of black and blue, with maybe a hint of tan, and sometimes a real shocker, somewhat brighter, turquoise! HA Ha
I really dislike pink, so don't think I will ever go there --- I even have trouble buying pink yarn and only (reluctantly) get some when absolutely necessary, like when making a square with flamingoes on it!
Anyway, it is fun to use the brighter colors for these squares. Keep up your great work.
Sewing is such a wonderful skill to have. It's always seemed daunting to me, but it would be much faster to sew rather than knit dolls. What sorts of dresses are you thinking of? I'm sure the girls will be happy with them.
Oh, Ute, your boxes will be such a joy for the volunteers in South Africa when they arrive. And the children will be even more excited!
One of the things that I like about KAS is the selection of yarns that I get to use. Some are so bright, maybe even gaudy???, and I would never use them for myself, but they are perfect for a square or two, and really brighten up the day.
Keep up your beautiful work, and keep encouraging the others around you.
Warm hugs all around. Sharon B
Thanks for your kind comment, Ute. I love knitting /crocheting for KAS.
Hi Ute, Thank-you for the welcome. I'm a bit of a knitter so knitting squares, handwarmers etc is perfect when on long journeys or just in front of the TV. My sister tried to teach me how to crochet and there have been various birthday presents of 'How to' books from family and friends but I'm still firmly committed to my 2 needles :) I have an elderly neighbour who needed to slow down a bit so I got her knitting vests and so far she's done about 45 which I then sew up for her and post off. Keeps us both out of mischief and it's for a much needed cause :)
