One piece in quarter size C2C squares join as you go. I started with the red square which is bottom left in the photo but was bottom right while I was working the blanket. I then added the green square, then gold, then blue etc. to the end of the short side. Then made the gold square on top of the red, then pink, then turquoise etc. So the final square worked was the purple which is top right in the photo.
This photo of the folded blanket might make it a bit clearer!

Oh I get it now.... I guess you could work on this style on/off over a few months if you were drip feeding your leftovers square by square each time you had little balls. Very clever indeed x ⭐

Such a BEAUTIFUL, cheery blanket, Patricia!!
I imagine you had a lot of fun choosing which colour to crochet next. :))

Karla, all of your squares are beautifully made, the animals are amazing and such fun for the children! Each 40cm heart square will really stand out in a blanket. The SA team will enjoy opening your parcel 😀

Oh what an adorable and varied selection from your hook Karla. The children will just love the animals. Your use of colour and texture is superb. Scrumptious large hearts too! Very well done ♥️

Beautiful ♥️. What a stash busting blanket x Is this made in one piece? If so, on the diagonal or row by row across? I'm baffled!

Thank you Karen. I crocheted more large hearts but the photo was to large/more than 7 MB/.
Squares with hearts are 40x40 cm, animal ones are 20x20 cm.
