Whether you are in summer or winter we had fun seeing what projects people were working on in August 2024.
Our Blanket Room is always filling up with amazing blankets that then fly out the door for a distribution. Visit this discussion to get caught up from August and September 2024.

We have been very busy with distributions these last two months. While there are not photos for everyone, know that children are being warmed by our KAS blankets.
On September 21there was a snow storm in South Africa with road delays. September 30 is has a forecast for temperatures to be near freezing once again. They are not quite ready for Spring.
August and July
The AUGUST Squares List is available.
Monthly totals:
During AUGUST we recorded 125 parcels, containing 8.831 squares, equal to 252 blankets!
During JULY we recorded 134 parcels, containing 8.661 squares, equal to 247 blankets!
Many other items were received, such as hats, hand-warmers, cuddly toys and other goodies.

Both our our volunteer groups have been very busy receiving parcels, sorting, assembling, photographing and getting items ready for our distributions.

Squares
Make sure your squares are 8″ (20cm).
- Darn all loose ends.
- Butterfly the 20” (50cm) tail for sewing up to avoid tangling during unpacking. (See ‘How to butterfly’ here.)
- Lay the squares flat for posting, and avoid rolling into sausages.
- You are welcome to sew your squares into blankets of 5×7 squares (see diagram) but must only declare that your package contains knitted squares. Crocheters often find it easier to crochet the squares into strips and then crochet the strips together.
Hats & Beanies
- The ribbed hats are best as they grow with the child.
- Sizing: if it fits the knitter then it will fit the child comfortably.
- Please avoid square hats, as for some reason the children get ridiculed for having ‘ears.’
Hand-warmers
- Hand-warmers that are ribbed are comfortable and grow with the child.
- Please place one hand-warmer inside the other in order to keep them together.
- Please avoid tying them together or using safety pins as these must be removed prior to distribution which becomes time consuming.
Cuddly Toys
- The children absolutely adore receiving their own personal ‘present’ of a cuddly toy, and they bring joy beyond measure for so many children who have never experienced the wonder of ‘ownership.’
- Hand-knitted toys or store bought toys are welcome, but all price tags must be removed to avoid customs problems.
- Second hand toys are accepted as long as they are in good condition.

What might you find on to do list as the weather changes? Temperature rising like Spring flowers, or temperature falling like the autumnn leaves

Thanks Amy loved all the pics - especially the ones you included of the snow.
Thank you for the photos. The one with the snow really stands out. So many people are so surprised when I tell them that "Yes, it DOES get cold in South Africa!! I have a photo of zebras in the snow." Then they understand the need for the blankets and hats and become much more interested.
Thanks sooo much, Amy, for another interesting and informative Snips....keeping us all updated and reminded of the great things we can all achieve together. xo
