Wrap your squares and crocheted or knitted items in a plastic bag or buy Tyvek bags or postal bags with an inner plastic coating to keep them moisture proof.
I don't know what Tyvek bags are....lol. I do know it's important not to cling wrap them because it can make the squares sweat and smell by the time they get to Africa.
I put mine in a (new) black plastic garbage bag, roll the open end down to fit the amount of squares then put this bag into another black plastic bag and cover with clear packing tape, so that it doesn't tear. This tip was given to me by a fellow Aussie. Wendy did send me a pic of this, but I can't share it with you, as it was a long time ago and I have probably deleted it. I tend to send 3-4 kilos at a time and found the postal bags here were not big enough, but I see that your best postal rate is for parcels much smaller, so either a padded postal bag (as long as it has a plastic padding inner) or placing them in a sealed plastic bag and then putting them in a large,tough cardboard postal envelope is probably best, I think. :))
Mary, the themes are just for fun......any squares, as long as they are not too holey/lacy (we need them to be warm) are perfect and so appreciated. Thank you. xo
We try to keep our squares as close to 8"/20cms as possible to assist the volunteer sorters and sewing ladies in South Africa. However, they do have a fabulous lady there, called Barb, who does a fantastic job of taking any 'odd sized' squares and collating/ turning them into beautiful blankets.
Regarding how many squares to send at any one time, it varies from country to country, depending on how their postal system works. If you would like to click on the link re postage that I sent to you, then scroll down that page, you will see some tips and yet another link (lol) specific to Canadian postage and how best to send and the size of your package.

Knitting or crocheting an 8" square or two or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for the children. They love to receive their blankets, created from squares, which come from kindly, caring folk such as yourself, from over 60 countries all over our world. PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone of all our blankets.
