I found this in the postage section....
I don't know what Tyvek bags are....lol. I do know it's important not to cling wrap them because it can make the squares sweat and smell by the time they get to Africa.
I put mine in a (new) black plastic garbage bag, roll the open end down to fit the amount of squares then put this bag into another black plastic bag and cover with clear packing tape, so that it doesn't tear. This tip was given to me by a fellow Aussie. Wendy did send me a pic of this, but I can't share it with you, as it was a long time ago and I have probably deleted it. I tend to send 3-4 kilos at a time and found the postal bags here were not big enough, but I see that your best postal rate is for parcels much smaller, so either a padded postal bag (as long as it has a plastic padding inner) or placing them in a sealed plastic bag and then putting them in a large, tough cardboard postal envelope is probably best, I think. :))
Mary, the themes are just for fun......any squares, as long as they are not too holey/lacy (we need them to be warm) are perfect and so appreciated. Thank you. xo
We try to keep our squares as close to 8"/20cms as possible to assist the volunteer sorters and sewing ladies in South Africa. However, they do have a fabulous lady there, called Barb, who does a fantastic job of taking any 'odd sized' squares and collating/ turning them into beautiful blankets.
Here is a link to our 'blanket room', where you will see a selection of blankets from each week. http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/blanket-room-2017
Regarding how many squares to send at any one time, it varies from country to country, depending on how their postal system works. If you would like to click on the link re postage that I sent to you, then scroll down that page, you will see some tips and yet another link (lol) specific to Canadian postage and how best to send and the size of your package.
Thank you for your inquiry and please do not hesitate to ask, if there is anything else I/we can help you with. :))
To assist you in the packaging and sending of your parcel/s, I have included a link to postage information, which includes a packing and mailing slip.
Thank you for joining our forum. :))
A warm welcome to the Knit A Square forum. :))
Knitting or crocheting an 8" square or two or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for the children. They love to receive their blankets, created from squares, which come from kindly, caring folk such as yourself, from over 60 countries all over our world. PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone of all our blankets. These are single colour squares that are in garter stitch(knitting) or single crochet as they are very solid and provide a contrast to a picture/striped/patterned square or two that may be added to a blanket.By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page or our other square pattern discussion http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/member-s-patterns-squares you can also find lots of patterns provided by our fellow K-A-Sers. If you would kindly check out our wishlist, you can see what items we are currently focusing on.http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/wish-list-2017
Clicking on the 'Helpful Hints' tab at the top of the page, will possibly answer many initial questions you may have .Any other questions...please ask...we love to help. :))
If you'd like to see what other KASers have been making please click on the photo tab at the top of the page....and feel free to add photos of your creations...we would love to see them. Just click on 'add photos' and follow the prompts.
If you want to see the most active discussions at present, please click on the 'main page' tab and they are listed in the centre of that page...just pick one and click on it. It is a large website, but with so much fun and info.
