Anne Powell replied to Sandy McDonald's discussion 'Spreading the word 2012'
Sometimes folks just spread the word for you!  I live in a rural area and one of the local newspapers has a column for each hamlet in the township.  The lady who writes the column for Leaskdale (my hamlet) may have been short of news last…

Yes Anne, Sandy did coin the KASfolk, which as you say is much nicer than Kaser!  KASelder is lovely too.  I'm definitely going to switch.

Anne Powell replied to Sandy McDonald's discussion 'Challenges for 2012'
I am chuckling because, in the midst of all this excitement over special squares, and the enthusiam it is generating, I just got word that a large bag of squares is arriving at our church this week from one of my KASelders. Gwynnyth is 93, and still…

Just adding a couple of KASisms that haven't made it onto the list yet KASfolk - coined by Sandy I believe and ever so much nicer than our original KASer KASelder - one of those wonderful senior ladies who give their time and skill to making…

Anne Powell replied to Sandy McDonald's discussion 'Challenges for 2012'
Hi Suzy I too have a small army of senior (and not so senior) church and community ladies knitting for KAS.  Most of them do plain janes and they churned out a small mountain of squares last year.  Most of them enjoy just doing simple…

Mailed 2 parcels today.  The postal clerk mentioned the price will be going up on Monday.  She didn't know what the increase will be.  She's my regular clerk and quoted me $95 for one parcel.  After we got over the…

Maybe....he's been on a bit of a "diet".  He's been living the high life.  If the other 2 leave food in their dish, he would eat it.  We're getting him back to his trim self.

We now have 112 postings in the Blog section. Things are getting very hard to find.

Our forum topics have also gone almost out of control. The mods are working to simplify this - we are creating some new categories, moving and combining some discussion groups into these categories, closing discussions that are no longer active (but everything is still online - see CLOSED DISCUSSIONS Category if you are looking for an OLD post).

In other words - we are trying to make the… Continue

Hi Anne,
I've been thinking about the toddlers lying on the linoleum since Sandy posted the photo in her blog.....very difficult image to forget.
Also I was thinking about all the baby blankets Ronda has stored.
Would it be a possibility to sew two of the baby blankets together to make a toddler blanket? It would be a bit bigger (6 X 4 instead of 5 X 4 ) but at least they would have something to sleep on or to cover them.
You are probably already thinking of ways to help . I thought I would run this by you because Sandy is so busy and you always have good ideas.

I've tried to check on the name of that stitch but I can't find it. The reverse side is called sand stitch. Grains of sand? That's what KAS started with. It simple and effective and I am delighted that you enjoy it too.

Hi Anne ! I am so glad you like my little 'buddies'. The little teddy came from a pdf file I downloaded, attributed to Patricia Smith, but I cannot find it on the net any more. The little fellow in the yellow jumpsuit can be found on our forum. Click on forum and scroll down to toys and you will find rainbow babies pattern. I will see if I can copy the pdf file to our form patterns but I am not very good at that sort of thing. lol !

Hi Anne,
I had a chat to two Zulu ladies who work in the retirement village where I live, just yesterday. The one, a younger woman, was a bit reluctant to open up and just said that frogs can bring sickness and death.
But Patricia, a middle aged woman, was more forthcoming and said that frogs, in and around the home, were a symbol of witchcraft activity and that someone was wishing one ill, seriously bad. I know that she is a devout Christian and asked if her religion did not nulify the 'bad spell' but she said no - witchcraft still has deep roots in their culture.
I remember a Zulu gardener, in our previous home, asking my husband to remove a large bullfrog from the area where he had to work. There was absolutely no way he was prepared to tackle it himself or even work around it.

I asked Patricia if toy frogs would be alright to send for our children and she said that she personally wouldn't worry about toys - it was the real thing that unsettled her.
Hope this makes you feel happier about the odd toy that may have found its way over here.
