Newby KASer here and not knitted in 25 years! can still churn out a basic square though...onwards and upwards!

Absolutely we take 8x8 or 7 1/2 to 9 inch squares (they stretch and squoosh to fit in okay) in any yarns. I make squares in worsted to chunky myself, even made one with fun fur yarn, it was sooo soft and…"

The KAS site is a lovely family with knitters and crocheters from all over the World. You will find loads of inspiration from the photographs that other members post on the site and you only have to look at the children to know why we all knit for them.
